SHAYA ROBINSON, MA. LMFTA, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Associate
“You are the author; allow me to be the pen.”
In life, we start with a blank page. As we grow up, we start to place our own markings on it as well as allowing others to leave their mark in our book called life. Through the highs and the lows, we add and want to subtract pieces of our story that are sometimes written in Sharpie. Sometimes we write things in Sharpie, and sometimes someone else has written on our page, leaving a stain that seems inevitable to remove as we rip the pages out; ink blotches are left on the remaining pages sometimes. No matter which page we turn, when we look at our book, we see the residue or the missing page that “ use to be”. And sometimes even the spine of our books gets warped and worn by the memories and adventures we’ve had.
Now therapy is not solely for the missing pages or spine damage. Therapy is a place to highlight the beauty in our lives and make beauty out of the stained sheets that remain. Each one of our books tells a story, what do you want your story to be? How do you want to write the next pages? Therapy is a space where you can release the anger, relish in the tears and cherish the laughs that come along the way.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, I value all aspects of life and welcome the tears, frustration, despair, hope, love and laughter. I come from a systemic lens and value taking a holistic, strength- based, person- centered approach to therapy. “There is one body, but it has many parts…. The private parts aren’t shown. But they are treated with special care.” As an individual or a couple, we all have parts of ourselves that we hide and want to protect, let this be a place where we treat it with special care.Let this be a place where we lean into vulnerability, humility and curiosity.
My approach in the therapy room is grounded in various modalities that help me meet the needs of my clients. I lean into various elements of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Existential/ Culturally sensitive approaches, Attachment Theory, Prepare and Enrich (Premarital Counseling), Gottman ( Marriage/Couples Counseling) and Play Therapy.
About Me;
I am a wife and a mother to two eccentric dogs! One Great Pyrenees and one Australian Shepherd. My husband and I enjoy being in the outdoors via traveling and/or backpacking. Despite the adventure, what fills my cup is a good cup of coffee, followed by intentional conversations with friends and/or a psychology/ non-fictional book in hand. My faith and belief in spirituality plays a great role in opening doors for me to walk alongside any individual that comes across my path. It fills my cup see the hope, growth and perseverance of those around me.
